Microsoft hosted Sweden’s university CIO network (ITCF) for a full day of discussions focused on AI, cybersecurity, and digital sovereignty in higher education.


The event brought together academic leaders, partners, and Microsoft experts to explore how institutions can move from AI experimentation to real operational value.


Participants highlighted the strategic dialogue, partner contributions, and the importance of curiosity and courage to drive transformation.

Microsoft welcomed Chief Information Officers from Sweden’s higher education institutions for a full day of collaboration and discussion focused on the future of digital transformation in academia. The event brought together the ITCF CIO network, Microsoft experts, and industry partners for an intensive and inspiring exchange on how universities can harness emerging technologies to strengthen resilience and innovation.


The program opened with remarks from Sophia Wikander, who emphasized the importance of courage and curiosity in enabling meaningful change within institutions. Her message set the tone for a day centered on turning technological experimentation into tangible operational value for universities.


Throughout the event, participants explored a wide range of strategic and practical topics shaping the future of higher education IT. Discussions addressed the geopolitical context of technology, digital resilience, and the growing importance of digital sovereignty. The agenda also included sessions on advanced AI capabilities such as Copilot and agentic AI, as well as cybersecurity and responsible adoption of emerging technologies.



Despite a packed schedule, engagement remained high throughout the day, with CIOs and technology leaders actively participating in discussions and exchanging perspectives on how to strengthen collaboration across the Swedish higher education sector.



Industry partners played a key role in the event, contributing insights and expertise that many participants highlighted as one of the day’s most valuable elements.
